How do Envelopments® Work?

What are Envelopments®?

Envelopments® are a range of pre cut shapes, blank cards, papers and envelopments , that are designed to fit into and onto each other. You simply cut cards to size and layer them on top of each other.

In the example below you purchase the 5x7 pocketfold which is the invitation outer. Then you glue on the Backing which comes pre cut in a 5x7 size. Next comes the printed invite itself. You print your wording onto a 5x7 card and as its going to sit in the middle of the backing card you simply trim the printed card down by 1/4 inch all around and stick this to the backing card. All your doing is layering up the cards.

For the inserts you start with 3 cards which are purchased pre cut 5x7 and print on your desired wording, for example an RSVP, directions, etc. The width is prefect and comes pre cut for fitting into the insert but in order for them to be stacked they each need to be cut to different heights. For example the longest has 1/4 inch cut off the end, the middle insert has 1/2 inch cut of the end and the top insert has 3/4 inch cut off the end.

Finally don't forget the envelope. These cut pre made in a size that will fit your invitation, for this example you would use a 5x7 envelope but you can also get envelope liners that are glued to the inside of the envelope in a coordinating colour.

For more ideas of what you can do with envelopes see our "Ideas & Inspiration" section. Start by looking at the style of invitation that you like. If you scroll down to the end of each invitation sample a full list of items that are required to complete the invitation is available.

How They Work

Where to start

For ideas of what you can do with envelopes look at our "Ideas & Inspiration" page. Also visit the Envelopments ideas secton on the Envelopments website. Look at the styles of invitations that you like you can choose a colour later.

1.      Start by selecting your outer that will hold the invitation.  Envelopments® offer many different ready-made outers , so you can choose from from:

2.       The next step is to choose the size of outer, there are several different sizes. Using the PocketFold™ as an example you can choose from 5”x5”, 5”x7” and several more sizes

3.       Once you are sure of the size, shape and orientation of outer that is best for you, you need to start thinking about colour selections.

4.       By this point you should have some idea of what you want to include in your invitation.  For example, you will have the main body which will include the invitation itself, but you may also want to include an RSVP card with matching envelope, an accommodation card, directions or a map, or just a couple of cards incorporating all the above.  That is the beauty of Envelopments® they can be tailored to your needs. We recommend using card stock for in for your invitations and paper stock for the inside of mass booklets.  So you now need to decide how many inserts do you want, and what colours will these be?  What size card do you need?

5.       Decide how many colours you want to use by thinking about their layout in the invitation.  How many layers do you want on the main body, and what colours will the layers be? There are currently over 100 different cardstock colours available.  You may also view cardstock  and paper colours on this site and on the Envelopments® site  however computer monitors do differ and the colour on the screen may not be representative of the true colour dependent on the monitor, so we urge you to choose your colours by using swatch decks, or by visiting us.

6.       If you are layering up your invite, then you will need to think about the sizes of layers to get that stepped effect.

7.      Finally don't forget your matching envelopes. You also have the option of adding an envelope liner to the inside of the envelope to coordinate your invitations even further. Or what about a clear transparent envelope.

Assembling your Envelopments®

We recommend transfer tape and glue dots for assembling your envelopments. More about adhesives

Start by having everything that is needed to complete the invitation printed, cut to size and ready to assemble.

Run a line of tape along all 4 sides of the back of the smallest layer staying as close to the edge as you can, the closer the tape is to the edge the less the card edges will start pulling up when the invitation is complete.

Unfortunately there is no template for mounting layers, "eyeball" the distance on either corner from the edges. The harder you press down on the adhered surface the better the stick. Many customer have found that a pair of soft white cotton gloves come in very handy for this process as it stops any dirty fingerprints on your invitation.

Don't Forget do you need Envelopments for:
